Sustainability at the Heart of My Craft.
As a scenic arts creative, I believe that every piece we build and every material we use has an impact—not just on the stage, but on the world around us. That’s why sustainability is at the core of my work. I’m committed to making eco-friendly choices that respect the environment while bringing imaginative, high-quality designs to life.
Theatre and set design have traditionally relied on large amounts of raw materials, many of which are used for short periods before being discarded. I see an opportunity—and a responsibility—to change that. My approach focuses on reducing waste, rethinking processes, and creating set pieces and props that are both beautiful and mindful of their footprint.
Some of the sustainable practices I incorporate include:
Using reclaimed wood and recycled metals in construction, giving new life to materials that might otherwise go to waste.
Prioritising non-toxic paints, stains, and finishes that are safer for the environment and the people working with them.
Designing modular, reusable set pieces that can be easily adapted for future productions, reducing the need for new builds.
Minimising offcuts and waste by carefully planning each project and repurposing leftover materials for props or smaller elements.
Sourcing locally whenever possible, which lowers transportation emissions and supports sustainable suppliers.
Sustainability isn't just a feature of my work—it’s a guiding principle. I believe that thoughtful design and environmental responsibility can (and should) go hand in hand. Whether I’m building a stage set, crafting a prop, or developing a digital concept, my goal is to create work that respects the craft, tells a compelling story, and leaves a lighter footprint on the planet.
